It worked great! And, at .23 a foot for rope at Ace, I got a spankin' new, custom-fit halter for less than $5.

Something very useful. Prefer it to the brass and nylon web halters that always break eventually. I prefer the maritime rope for the leads, right weight and stiffness. I like them 12 to 15 feet.

I use a modified rope halter for my bridle =)
    I love it!
    My horses love it!

How did you modify it? I was thinking of that, too. I just love making my own tack. Now, if only I knew how to make a saddle....

        Saddles would be GREAT!

I had someone make it for me, and put rings on the sides there (tie em into a knot). I forgot to get a chin strap, so right now there is a piece of orange bailing twine... LOL I tied it to one ring and then onto the other under the chin, and I tend to get more control that way.

Allot of people just use the bottom loop to attach the reins... I've been thinking about trying that with my other one.
She isnt comfortable with the bit, and I dont blame her! I've seen some bosal bridles that I want to persue. But right now, I dont have tons of money!

We have an "equine exchange" store in the area, and I want to go shopping there =)

I was thinking that next time I could make a regular knot under the noseband (now that I know the exact spot) and tie two loops on either side of that, where the lower rings of her hackamore curb are, for reins (Paso Fino curbs: www.casadosa.com/Scripts/prodList.asp )

I've been looking for years for some sort of do-it-yourself saddle project. I can find leather stores that will teach saddle making, but they cost a pretty penny, and I have a suspicion that the bulk of the class is on leather tooling, and not actually making the saddle to fit you and your horse. You'd think with all the treeless saddles out there (half of whose intros start with "I wasn't happy with my saddle so I began making one and this is the result...") there would be some guidance...
